Val has spent most of her marketing and operations career leading leading-edge companies in telecommunications, computing and the Internet. She has held senior positions at publicly traded and private companies, emerging start-ups and established corporate giants where she helped guide entire industry segments. Val's computer experience has a symmetry of portability and power that spans 25 years. Her early work on behalf of Compaq Computer, one of the first companies to make a portable computer in the 1980's, foreshadowed her more recent position as Senior Vice President of successful tablet PC maker Motion Computing where she launched four new products and served on the Executive Committee. Val also served a Chief Operating Officer and Board member of Netpliance, where she brought an inexpensive Internet-access device to the masses while reducing operating cost of service 40%. In the telecommunications industry, Val accelerated the penetration of cellular phones from novelty to ubiquity as Vice President of Sales & Marketing for AT&T Wireless Services, Southwest Region representing 30% of all national revenue. And, her networking work as Senior VP of IXC/Broadwing made integrated voice, data and Internet services a reality to the tune of $180 million in first-year revenue. Her responsibilities in the category have ranged from product development and provisioning to billing and branding, from call centers and quality assurance to marketing communications and order management. Along the way, Val has led strategic business positioning, development and branding for start-ups and industry titans. She has organized and conducted market analysis, market planning, financial plan verification and primary research for start-ups including a data warehousing company and a wireless DSL company. Early in her career she was international marketing manager for Continental Airlines and a senior account executive at Ogilvy & Mather. Born in Chicago, Val has lived around most of the U.S. and overseas. She holds a Bachelor's degree in sociology and business from Texas A&M University and an MS degree in management from Troy State University in Kaiserslautern, Germany. She also completed executive education on competitive business strategies at Wharton School of Business. |
